How to choose best VPN Protocol (Complete Guide)

Are you confused what are OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP etc? Okay! Want to know what these VPN Protocols are and which one is the right fit for your need? If you have your own VPN connection and now confused which protocol, you have to pick by yourselves. Our VPN Clients provide automatic mode. The mode automatically provides you best VPN Protocol, which suits to your needs. Therefore, if you are choosing your own VPN and after setting up VPN, you will choose its protocol too. This is not the final word, I’ll boil every detail below to grasp at these VPN tunnel protocols, so let me explain the differences between these protocols to understand which one is right fit according to your need. There are few substantial differences in between VPN Tunnels, so here we go:

Vpn Protocol:

In simple words, VPN Protocol is described as the agreed communicating language of a computer.VPN protocol tunnels are the resources to maintain networking connections and to encapsulating or encrypting the data collected/transferred from the internet.  There you will find several ways to encrypt data and advanced technologies over time…. but the quality and reliability are not so common, so for better service with affordable rates click here.

PPTP:

Point-to-point so-called PPTP is simple in four protocols. It has been implemented in windows and allows multiple traffic be encapsulating the IP address and encrypt the data securely. PPTP widely used to remotely access and for multiple VPN connections for site-to-site access. It consists on 128-bit operating encryption. Disconnecting the connection is a common issue in troubleshooting but by PPTP-enable, you will find minor disconnecting issue due to its minor vulnerabilities. The encryption didn’t slower down the bandwidth speed of PPTP and make it faster than others.

Note:PPTP is vulnerable, old and common to use in windows but the Great Firewall of China capable of detecting your IP address and can block your VPN service.

L2TP/IPSEC:

Layer 2 Tunnel Protocol (L2TP)/Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC) are the VPN Protocol Tunnels that haven’t encryption option to facilitate as PPTP. That’s the reason L2TP implemented to IPSEC for encryption purposes. It allows multiple traffic to encrypt data and sent it to any supported asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) or IP. L2TP only relies on IPSEC to transport the remote access VPN clients.

L2TP have a tight security system that’s why it is slower than other protocol tunnels. It has 256-bit encryption so; due to its extra security layer it slowed down bandwidth speed. Although we are grateful for its high-level security and ability to unblock foreign restricted sites

Note: Its two-step process “L2TP and IPsec”.  The internet traffic is converted into L2TP form and IPsec added the encryption option for online transferring data on multiple sites.

OpenVPN:

OpenVPN is operating the open-resources-technologies. For encryption purposes, it is using OpenSSL library with protocols SSLv3 or TSLv1. The best thing about setting up OpenVPN is, it is applicable to configure any device and can run simultaneously on any TCP port.

Therefore, if you use AES encryption it will be more configurable and most secure than other weaker encryption systems. You will not find any one of the serious concern about its encryption compromise to OpenVPN. It is not supported to integrate any smart mobile, desktop or tablet’s operating system due to connect OpenVPN to your device, you will need to connect a third party application.

Note:OpenVPN is a new and most secure protocol tunnel that required a third-party application to configure. OpenVPN is superior to all other vpn protocol tunnels due to its all-in-one package.

SSTP:

Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol called SSTP that is introduced in window vista. SSTP is awesome to use for windows and best in support especially for window vista service pack1. SSTP as its name carries the word ‘secure’ and propriety Microsoft protocol. The most potential advantage of STTP is it’s integrated into the operating system that is making SSTP more stable for windows than OpenVPN. It is also eligible to use most secure AES encryption option while configuring VPN on your windows. If you are using any version of windows, it’s better to use STTP than other VPN protocol tunnels. If you are connecting your VPN client to SSTP-based, first of all, there will be established HTTP layer direction with SSTP protocol. By this layer, your protocol will pay the role as a data payload server.

Note: SSTP is unlike the OpenVPN but it is best only for windows, especially window vista pack1.

What is your choice now……. Privacy, Security, Speed OR all of these?

There are several purposes of using a most stable and secure vpn protocol tunnel but the needs are different. If you want the extra security of encryption while using a public or personal VPN connection, I’ll recommend you L2TP/IPsec. As mentioned above L2TP amazingly provide an extra security layer for encryption, since it will protect you from cyber-goons, by spoofing, hackers and will be secured from ISP that is mostly used for government use. SSTP may be not fully speed up but you can unblock any restricted site and bypass censorship.

If you are not concern for the high level of security or privacy, just want to bypass US channels and looking to connect VPN with widnows then you must configure for PPTP
However, if you are looking for a proper package with good speed, high-level security, stability and privacy all in one, OpenVPN is best in all. OpenVPN offering all of these advantages those are perfect for everyone, especially for personal or business use because if you are working in a coffee shop and find a free wifi, you might don’t know your data is at risk, your bank account or any information must be secure and easy to take access without any hassle.
